Simons Inaugurates its 9th Store at Galeries d'Anjou

Simons, a large Quebec family business, officially inaugurates its 9th store at Galeries d'Anjou in the east-end of Montreal. The store measures some 100,000 square feet and is spread out over two floors. It is the first store in the family to include a restaurant-café, the result of a collaboration with Caroline Dumas and Soupesoup restaurants.
« We are proud to finally be able to serve the clientele of east-end Montreal, said Mr. Peter Simons, the company's President and General Manager. This 9th store provided us with an opportunity to innovate on the architectural and technological levels and to improve the shopping experience with the inclusion of a Soupesoup restaurant on the second floor. The collaboration with Soupesoup fits in perfectly with our constant desire to innovate and to create, which guides not only our exclusive selection of merchandise, but also the very design of our stores. »
« We had been searching for a long time for the ideal partner to add food products to our stores. We chose Caroline Dumas, head and founder of Soupesoup restaurants, for her spontaneous, tasty and healthy cuisine. The Galeries d'Anjou store was the perfect opportunity to finalize the agreement. We will now evaluate how the Soupesoup restaurant-café concept could be used in other stores. »
"We are delighted that La Maison Simons has found a home at Galeries d'Anjou, and we welcome them warmly, " said Salvatore Iacono, Senior Vice President, Development and Portfolio Management, Eastern Canada Portfolio, Cadillac Fairview. "Simons is an excellent fit for our centre and consumers have been eagerly awaiting their arrival."
With over 170 years of experience, Simons is a reference in the fashion sector thanks to a unique commercial concept that stresses variety. Simons offers the very best creations from around the world (including Balmain, Missoni and Paul Smith) as well as its own lines for both men and women that are both exclusive and ground-breaking. Simons also offers a wide variety of home decor items for the bedroom, kitchen, dining room and bathroom.
Housed in seductive and original space, Simons' stores aim to inspire customers through fashion, art and architecture. The Galeries d'Anjou store is no exception, as shown by its use of space and its architecture, entrusted to the award-winning Figure3 company and to LemayMichaud Architecture Design, respectively.
Magnificent works of art and facilities crown the unique decor: metal sculptures, plaster wall coverings with geometric motifs using high and low relief, urban landscape frescoes and graffiti along with unusual fitting rooms in the Djab sector.
The outside architecture also draws a lot of attention. The store's facade sets itself apart by its sheer size and creates an identity for Simons that is all its own. We should also mention the embedded LED lighting that gives the impression of a galactic mural at nightfall. The store's construction required an investment of 25 million dollars. Its operations will create about 200 jobs.
The arrival of Simons to Galeries d'Anjou is part of a major 86 million dollar expansion and renovation project that was begun by the Cadillac Fairview Corporation and Ivanhoé Cambridge, co-owners of the shopping centre that was inaugurated 45 years ago. Galeries d'Anjou is strategically located at the intersection of Highway 40 and Highway 25.
