Peter Halsall Appointed President & CEO of the Canadian Urban Institute

Caryl Arundel, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI), is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Halsall as President & CEO

Peter is an award-winning engineer and entrepreneurial businessman who has led the growth of a number of innovative companies, beginning with expansion of employee-owned Halsall Associates to a firm of more than 300 people located in eight offices across Canada. Halsall Associates was consistently identified as one of Canada's best workplaces by the Great Places to Work Institute. Peter has also launched two successful consulting companies, Pivotal Projects Ltd and Loop Initiatives Ltd. as part of the Halsall group.The company was purchased by Parsons Brinckerhoff Brinckerhoff in 2010, for whom he served as the Global Sustainability Lead.
 
In 2012, Peter received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Sustainable Buildings Canada; he became a Fellow of The Canadian Academy of Engineering in 2011, and in 2009 was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Distinction, Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, University of Toronto. Peter had 5 year terms as the engineering member on each of the inaugural Waterfront Toronto and City of Toronto Design Review Panels. He also manages the Halsall Family Trust, established at the Toronto Community Foundation.

The Canadian Urban Institute is a Toronto-based not for profit organization established in 1990 that supports the development of sustainable urban regions across Canada and internationally with applied policy research, civic engagement projects, and incubation of innovative technologies that reduce a city's environmental footprint.
