Sustainability Roundtable Inc. Names Bentall Kennedy as SBER Outstanding Landlord of 2013

Sustainability Roundtable, Inc., the leader in shared-cost research and consulting on best practices in more sustainable business, recognized Bentall Kennedy as the Sustainable Business & Enterprise Roundtable's (SBER) Outstanding Landlord of 2013. Bentall Kennedy is a leading North American real estate investment advisor with more than $30 billion of office, retail, industrial and multi-family properties through-out North America. SR Inc recognized Bentall Kennedy for its growing global leadership in the move to more sustainable and high-performing real estate investment management. SR Inc specifically recognized Bentall Kennedy's best practice leadership in portfolio-wide optimization structures and programs, responsible property investment, employee and tenant engagement, and systemized continuous improvement. The Award was announced during SR Inc's Q4 Executive Symposium on Sustainable Optimization and Innovation: Advanced Sustainability Strategy held at SBER Member-Client Nokia's campus in San Diego, CA.

SR Inc recognized Bentall Kennedy as the SBER Outstanding Landlord of 2013 due to its exceptional
leadership in enterprise-wide sustainability and, specifically, its:
 
Portfolio-wide optimization governance structures, programing, and successes
Systemized continuous optimization towards greater energy productivity
Development of systems and processes to engage employees, tenants, and brokers in the move to greater sustainability
Development of systems and processes to engage designers, construction managers and building managers in sustainability
Development of a methodology to integrate environmental performance into external appraisals and valuation process

Implementing a comprehensive Tenant Improvement Manual to promote greater alignment with and certification under LEED-CI 

 
Bentall Kennedy is a global leader in sustainable real estate investment and management and has been for a number of years. Currently, $6.9 billion of Bentall Kennedy's assets are certified under the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Building Rating System. Bentall Kennedy has also developed its own Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess performance of company divisions, report to senior management quarterly, and to facilitate participation in external reporting frameworks such as the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and with the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB).
 
This past year, sustainability highlights within Bentall Kennedy include a systemized prioritizing of responsible real estate acquisitions and improvements with a focus on transit-oriented development and central business district (CBD) acquisitions and improvements, implementing zero waste and composting programs in pilot sites, as well as the creation of a Sustainability Innovation Committee tasked with reviewing new technologies and services.
