Celebrating the Milestone of a Landmark Property ''Grande Dame'' Style

 

Recently, Place Ville Marie, Montreal’s premier business address, celebrated its 50-year milestone golden jubilee in style with an impressive guest list.  Ivanhoé Cambridge & partner AIMCo,  co-owners of the Grande Dame of Montreal, as she is referred to since her inauguration in 1962.
 
The Square Foot obtains a special account from the President & CEO Of Ivanhoé Cambridge, Daniel Fournier, in which he describes his memories of what was, at that time, the biggest construction site in the Commonwealth.

For the anniversary gala evening, many top Montreal personalities from the Business, Artistic and Political communities were part of the celebrations alongside some of the great people who were part of the making of this stellar building.  A special tribute was given to the guest of honor, Henry Cobb, the architect who delivered an inspiring speech. I invite you to listen to his words of wisdom. 
 

 
 
As a birthday gift, the Grande Dame of Montreal received a new sculpture at the base of her distinctive tower.  The unveiling of Autoportrait by Montreal artist Nicolas Baier was done late afternoon in the presence of many tenants & proud Montrealers.  
 
For the occasion, a commemorative book was published with memories, anecdotes & pictures dating from the construction. One of the four artisans of this project is Jacques-André Chartrand, who was an employee of SITQ, the company that was at the root of the office building division, now part Ivanhoe Cambridge.
